About Antalya

According to the legend, Pergamum’s King Attalos II in the first centuries BC was given the order to “find the paradise on earth.” His men found the site where Antalya is located today. Antalya is a beautiful holiday resort with its palm streets and the small harbor with docked boats.

The picturesque old town is called “Kaleici”. Here several of the buildings have been converted into guesthouses, elegant hotels, carpet shops or restaurants. Kaleici offers its visitors a wonderful feeling to walk through history while enjoying good food and shopping. Attalos II founded Antalya in the first century BC and gave the city the name Attaleia.

Since then, the city has been renamed several times and both the Romans, Byzantines and Seljuqs ruled the city before the Ottomans took over. The city’s rich history has also left behind a wealth of historic monuments. In downtown stands the Yivli minaret and a mosque Seljuq’s Sultan Aladdin Keykubad built in the 1200s.
